We offer FELASA-certified disease-free Ossabaw pigs and tools for research

Ossabaw pigs

We supply FELASA-certified disease-free Ossabaw pigs for research within biomedical, physiological, nutritional, surgical, immunological and other fields of research in which the pig is the ideal model for human conditions.

We can also provide obese pigs with documented metabolic syndrome; this obtained by a minimum of three months of feeding the pigs one of our specific high fat diets supporting the development of differently balanced metabolic syndrome phenotypes. Pigs are being trained to the presence of humans and to tolerate handling with a minimum of anxiety.

Contract research

Our pig immunology toolbox is based on work in pigs for the past 15-20 years and comprises both dedicated methods and validated pig biomarkers within the fields on inflammation, cancer and innate immunology. The tools can be broadly divided into protein level tools and biomarkers (immunoassays and mass spectrometry), transcriptional profiling tools (coding and non-coding RNA) mainly by qPCR as well as cellular characterization methods based on flow cytometry, all of which are specifically directed towards the pig (see list below). The list develops continuously and is being continuously updated.

The tools are readily available for research within the Ossabaw Facility, including collaboration and contract research with outside parties.
